There are so many items we toss that end up in landfills, but they CAN be responsibly recycled, repurposed, and reused. We can do our part to prevent pollution of ground water, poisoning of the air we breathe, and accumulation of plastic on the islands of the Pacific Ocean. The AA Greening Group will collect hard-to-recycle materials and transport them to CHaRM (Center for Hard to Recycle Materials) for proper recycling and disposal. The event is divided into three parts in which different materials will be collected:

Part 1 – October
Paint, Styrofoam, and Household Chemicals [packaging Styrofoam, peanuts (in bags!), pesticides, herbicides, etc.]
Dates: October 19, 20, 22
Fee: $2 per can of paint

Drop-off: Look for the blue bins in the parking lot located on the west side. Please deposit smaller items in the bins or bag or box them – stack larger items nearby. Money collection envelopes are in the AA and Ahava lobbies at the front desk – feel free to make a flat donation of $5! Questions? aagreening@gmail.com.

Think before you toss, save these items, and bring them to the AA – we’ll do the rest!

Part 2 – November
Electronics (TVs, computer monitors, VCRs, small appliances, printer cartridges, electric cords, etc.)
Dates: November 16, 17, 19
Fee: $15 per TV or monitor

Part 3 – December
Bulbs and Batteries, Sheet Plastic, and Scrap Metal [light bulbs (including fluorescent tubes up to 8 ft), car and rechargeable batteries, bubble plastic, etc.]
Dates: December 7, 8, and 10
Fee: $.50 per fluorescent tube
