Meet our Youth Advisors

Programs designed for young people provide a way for them to interrelate, work together and have fun at the same time. The youth groups described here are rich in their spiritual and educational value and help our youth to grow, to understand and to better relate to the fundamental elements of Jewish culture.

Machar Grades 4 & 5
Machar, the Hebrew word for tomorrow, is our beginning youth group. Machar meets once a month from October through May. Macharniks get a sample of what the older youth groups do by participating in activities that cover athletics, religious education and social action. The purpose behind Machar is to get the fifth and sixth graders accustomed to the Youth Department and to help them form friendships that will last through their years in the youth groups.

Kadima Grades 6, 7 & 8

Kadima, the Hebrew word for forward, gets the kids more involved in the Youth Department. Kadima meets twice a month. Their programs delve deeper and are more substantive than those of Machar. We try to provide a broad mix of social, religious, educational, and social action programs to prepare the youngsters for what they will later experience in U.S.Y. The Kadimaniks are able to attend conventions that involve Kadimaniks from all over the Hanegev Region.

Chai U.S.Y. Grades 9 through 12
U.S.Y., United Synagogue Youth, is our senior youth group. U.S.Y. meets about four times a month with each month offering a spectrum of programming that covers all aspects of U.S.Y. from athletics to religious services. Our chapter, Chai U.S.Y., participates in the A.J.C.C. teen basketball league, raises money for Tikun Olam, and has many social events such as the infamous Wild Goose Chase, Braves games, over-nights, and many other fun events. On the first Shabbat of the month, our USYers meet at the Synagogue and have their own full Shabbat morning service. They lead every aspect of the service from leading the prayers to reading Torah.

Social Action is a very important part of the Chai U.S.Y. experience. Religious programming is rich in its spiritual and educational value. Jewish culture also plays a central role in the U.S.Y. experience. Some of the best Jewish musical groups have performed for U.S.Y.

By the time the teens leave U.S.Y. and our Youth Department, they should be confident and capable Jewish leaders. For additional information regarding youth groups, contact Marcia Lindner.
